Yoga Service Networks (YSNs) bring people interested in yoga service together on the local level. They provide opportunities to connect with others in ways that support both individuals, the local community, and the yoga service field as a whole.
Yoga Service Networks differ from yoga service organizations in that they do not provide yoga classes or other direct services. Rather, they enable members of local yoga service organizations and others interested in their work to build positive, collaborative relationships with each other and the local community.
Yoga Service Networks are independent organizations: self-generated, self-governing, and self-sustaining. As such, their precise structure, mission and activities differ. Examples of programs and resources offered by existing YSNs include:
- Presentations or panel discussions led by local experts on topics such as teaching yoga in prisons, integrating yoga into mental health care, or combining self-care with social activism.
- Hosting a well-known author, teacher, or activist, and facilitating a discussion on their work.
- Organizing special events dedicated to raising money for a yoga service-related or community oriented organization or cause.
- Developing social media platforms to help publicize local yoga service organizations, trainings, and events; provide information about volunteer needs or staff openings; and enable discussion and information sharing.

Atlanta Regional Yoga Service Network (AR-YSN)
AR-YSN is an informal, diverse, loosely structured, non-partisan group open to anyone in Georgia who is involved in, or interested in, yoga service. They operate an open Facebook page that shares yoga service work in the Atlanta region, a closed Facebook group to facilitate discussion among AR-YSN members, and are planning to launch in-person meetings. Socially Engaged Yoga Network, Chicago (SEYN Chicago)
SEYN supports yoga teachers and community organizations committed to sharing the benefits of yoga with under-resourced communities in the Chicagoland area. SEYN holds quarterly meetings exploring a variety of topics at different yoga studios and other locations throughout the Chicagoland area. Boston’s Socially Engaged Yoga Network (BSEYN)
BSEYN is an alliance of Boston-area, community-based yoga practitioners who are mindful and active around issues of access, equity, identity, race, gender, environment, trauma, diversity and inclusion and how they relate to yoga. SATYA is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to therapeutic yoga for at-risk and vulnerable populations in the Strafford, Rockingham and York county region. They support, publicize, and coordinate free yoga classes, organized yoga outreach, fundraisers for local charities, and other forms of community service. Yoga Empowerment Partnership (YEP)
YEP is a part of Nazareth College’s award-winning yoga program, locally known as Naz Yoga Kula. YEP provides opportunities for students who are passionate about yoga and community service to work collaboratively with Nazareth College staff, faculty, and yoga teachers; learn from local yoga service leaders; and collaborate with local service organizations.
