Race based stress and trauma are so common in our culture that we are not always aware of their negative impact because we adapt. Yet ethnic and race based trauma and stress are real and pervasive. This stress is often magnified by the lack of opportunity to recover before the next experience, contributing to anxiety, and levels of distress that compromise overall health and a general sense of well-being. As aware members of the human family we know that when something affects one of us it affects us all. The yoga community is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. Because of this the conversation within and around yoga needs to keep pace with the shifting demographics.

This is six-part online course invites everyone, not just people of color, to consider the psychological impact of ethnic and race based stress and trauma on all of us, and how we in the yoga community can contribute to healing the wounds that result. The course will help you learn what constitutes race based stress and trauma, how it differs from PTSD, how it impacts our nervous system, cultural conditioning that contributes to racial wounding, our vulnerabilities that make this a difficult conversation, and ways to identify what triggers you. You will be able to identify where racial stress and trauma land in the body, and how Restorative Yoga can be used as an effective self-care tool to buffer the nervous system, increase resilience, and strengthen your psychological immune system as you navigate the stresses and traumas that arise from daily-lived experiences associated with race.
